Established in 1920, The George Telegraph Training Institute has remained committed to empowering youth through skill-based and vocational education. Over the decades, the Institute has built a strong reputation for practical training, discipline, and career-focused learning across multiple professional fields.
With deep experience in vocational education, the Institute follows structured, industry-responsive training methods that help students gain practical knowledge and workplace readiness. Along with technical training, it also focuses on communicative English, personality development, grooming, and interview preparation to support employability.
The Institute also conducts employee training and assessment programmes for outside organisations, both on-campus and off-campus. With centres across West Bengal, Agartala, Assam, and Odisha, it continues to make quality vocational education accessible to students from urban, semi-urban, and non-metropolitan regions.
The George Telegraph Training Institute is also engaged in CSR-linked skill development and livelihood-oriented projects across various locations, supporting youth, women, and community members with training, counselling, and employability support. Established on 16 May 1920, The George Telegraph Training Institute was founded to address the growing challenge of unemployment and the need for industry-ready skills in India. At a time when the country was moving from an agrarian economy towards industrial growth, educated youth needed practical training that matched emerging job opportunities.
Founded by Mr Haripada Dutta, the Institute began by offering training in telegraphy, railway coaching, guard training, and Assistant Station Master’s diploma programmes, responding directly to industry demand. Its early commitment to practical education soon earned recognition from respected authorities including the British Army, British Railway Board, Government departments, Maritime Authorities, and Chambers of Commerce.
Over the decades, The George Telegraph Training Institute has evolved into a trusted name in vocational education, offering career-focused training across technical, professional, and service sectors. Guided by its founding vision, the Institute continues to empower youth with skills, confidence, and employability.
The National Skill Development Corporation India (NSDC), under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India, plays a key role in strengthening skill development across the country. It works to bridge the gap between industry demand and skilled manpower by supporting quality vocational training and industry-aligned skill programmes.
Association with NSDC adds credibility to skill-based education by encouraging structured training, assessment, and certification that meet recognised standards. NSDC certification helps learners gain formal recognition for their skills and supports better employability across organised and unorganised sectors.
For students, such certification strengthens career prospects, support upskilling, and create wider opportunities in the job market. Through its industry-focused approach, NSDC contributes to building a skilled, confident, and employable workforce for India’s growing economy.
